Professional SportsCare & Rehab has a beautiful, 14,000 gallon pool located within our Gambrills facility where we offer aquatic therapy services for general physical therapy and wellness and Arthritis Foundation classes. Our physical therapy staff is fully trained in aquatic rehabilitation and will design an aquatic program based on your unique situation, needs and goals.
About Aqua Therapy
Aquatic therapy uses the physical properties of water to assist in patient healing and exercise performance. These properties include buoyancy, which allows less weight bearing through the joints, and viscosity, or resistance, which is patient controlled by the speed of the exercises. Pressure from the water assists in promoting circulation and decreasing swelling. The water is kept at a comfortable temperature of 92-94 degrees. This warmth allows a calming effect that improves a patient’s tolerance to exercise and overall function.
The aquatic environment prepares patients for dry land therapeutic exercises they may not yet be ready to perform. It is also used in combination with dry land exercises and/or manual therapy. Aquatic therapy can effectively treat a broad range of conditions that include:
- Low Back Pain
- Spinal Disorders
- Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Chronic Pain Conditions
- Knee Pain
- Gait Deviations
- Balance Difficulties
- Fibromyalgia
- General Deconditioning
- Post surgery
- Injuries, Sprains or Strains
Arthritis Foundation Classes
Professional SportsCare is proud to offer a series of specially-designed exercise classes sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation YMCA. These classes are taught by staff certified through the Arthritis Foundation and offer a great way to continue physical conditioning after physical therapy or for maintaining personal goals. Any adult with arthritis may join the program and it is no necessary to know how to swim. Eight- week sessions run throughout the year, with each session consisting of two one-hour classes per week. Class size varies on interest, with an average class of eight to 10 people. Cost for each session is $100. All those with surgical backgrounds, multiple or severe joint problems are encouraged to speak directly to their doctors.
Please contact the Gambrills office to register.
